Another item that you should seriously consider is proper identification of the buyer and seller. Generally this can be done by examining the drivers license and noting its number and state on the bill of sale as well. Don't forget to list full address information for each of the buyer and the seller - and, if different from the address listed on the drivers license, you may wish to ask to see some sort of proof or residence. While all of this may seem a bit extreme, just remember if a police officer comes knocking on your door about that "stolen tractor" in your shed, you're gonna want to have all of this information on hand to not only assist, but also to clear your name and to show that you did your due diligence to avoid a fraudulent transaction.
Other items that you should include on the bill of sale include the form of payment - whether check, bank wire, money order or cash. If anything other than cash, then you need to make sure and include all of the relevant details. So, for a money wire, for example, you would list the bank, the account number and the transaction id for the wire. If payment were made by check, you would want to include the bank, the account and the check number as well on the bill of sale. Additionally you should attach a photocopy of the check, the money order, or a copy of the bank transaction receipt so that you have further evidence of your transaction. A tractor bill of sale is largely just like any other bill of sale. The real point here is to document a transaction between two people so that both sides have ample proof of the transaction. A good idea is to make two originals of the document so both parties leave with an original in hand. Lastly, there is one other item which you may want to consider and that is having a third party "witness" the transaction and sign as well. |
